Internet names (or Domain Names) - what are they?
An internet name (or domain name, in the jargon) is a simply an internet address. It is the part after the @ symbol in an email address. It is also the part after the www in a web page address.
Every computer (smart phone, tablet, ...) connected to the internet has its own unique numeric address. This is called the IP address. Unfortunately it's a long number that isn't very friendly (eg.122.158.127.71). It's difficult to remember and tells you little about what is at that address. So internet names were created as aliases to the numerical IP address.
For example, econnect.co.nz is our internet name. When you enter it into your bowser the internet infrastructure automatically converts the meaningful text into the corresponding IP address and up comes the eConnect website.

Why should you have one?
An internet name speaks for your business. It lets you promote your business every time you send an email. It's what prospective customers see when they do a web search. Shout out your own name, loud and proud.
